Assessment: Literary Exploration

Read and follow the expectations for the Literary Exploration as set up in Unit 5, Topic 4 as they will be the basis for the evaluation of ALL of the Literary Exploration essays your write for this course, including the LE Essay on Part A Written of your Final Exam.
Please keep in mind that you will write a Literary Exploration on Part A Written of the Final Exam. You will have approximately 1.5 hours to do so, so use the Literary Exploration essays for Assignments 9, 10, and 11 to help you prepare for the LE essay on Part A Written of your Final Exam.
Choose one of the following questions to discuss in a Literary Exploration essay. Be sure to clearly indicate in your Assignment to which topic you are responding.
- Kate says that “. . . understatement was the rule in our house. Emotions, even positive ones, were kept firmly under control.” In this story, the “rule” these children learned in childhood influenced their relationships with each other and with people outside their family. What is your opinion of the idea that the influence of others can have a lasting effect?
- Guilt is an ongoing theme throughout the book. What is your opinion of the idea that guilt can affect both relationships and the choices people make?
- As a consequence of the events of her childhood, Kate is a rather judgmental, withdrawn young woman. What is your opinion of the idea that the past can affect whom people become as adults?
