Task: Write a 800-900 word essay in which you compare and contrast the rhetorical techniques of two news media stories on the same topic. We will study the first news report together as a class, and then you will select the second news story on your own. In the comparative essay, you will illustrate with specific examples how each journalist has chosen to present the story, and analyze how the contrasting choices of the two journalists may result in readers getting different impressions of the current events being discussed.
