Next, identify three (3) of the performance issues discussed in the assigned readings or that you’ve identified through your independent research. First define each and then discuss the issues of each as they impact the performance review process. How can an HRM mitigate each of the issues?

Question 2

Begin by defining Performance Management in your own words. Next, identify three (3) best practices for a performance evaluation system discussed in the assigned readings. Conduct a bit of independent research and compare or contrast the ideas of at least one reference you find interesting.

As you develop your ideas be sure to include your thoughts about which are the important aspects of an improvement plan and defend your argument by explaining why they are so important.

Don’t forget to include your reference to support your arguments.

Question 3: What haven’t we focused on? (Everyone Responds)

There is a wealth of information available in our text and in the literature! Similar to the situation in Week 3, I cannot possibly ask you questions about every topic and concept – but I want to make sure you know the material. For example, we didn’t talk about the new recommendation that performance reviews be conducted more frequently – as in monthly.

For this last topic, I would ask you to select a topic that sparked your interest this week and summarize your understanding about the topic. I would like to see at least two paragraphs in which you explain your understanding about any aspect of the employee performance management – whether it’s ideas about the process issues, techniques, or procedures. Conduct independent research and include your sources. You get to choose your focus.

“Performance management is the process of assessing and reviewing an employees’ work. The manager keeps track of employees’ job performance and at least annually sit down with each employee and go over it. This includes making plans to improve their performance.

One performance issue that was discussed in this weeks’ reading is too much time doing personal things at work. This is pretty self-explanatory. When an employee is taking care of personal issues at work it takes away from being productive and focused on the work that needs to be done. This also may make the employees work fall on others in the organization which causes problems within the work environment. HRM can mitigate this issue by giving warnings to the employee and by making it clear that it can only be tolerated in small amounts. Taking care of personal issues sometimes can happen during work but it cannot be something that takes place of the actual work that needs to be done.

Another issue is nonperforming. When an employee isn’t performing to their full potential, it ends up having a negative effect on the organization. HRM can mitigate this by planning out goals with this employee and ensuring they complete them. This may also benefit the employee by giving them something to look forward to.

Harassment is also a huge issue. This happens when an employee engages in sexual harassment or bullying within the organization. This should never happen because training should be held to warn against this and show the consequences. If it does, it should be investigated. If the employee is found to be guilty of this they should be let go.

There are internal and the external factors of recruiting. There are many sources of recruitment like using the news papers for advertising the job notifications, recruiting the employees within the organization in the form of transfers, walk-ins etc. HR uses the different strategies for recruiting the correct persons that who are eligible for the advertised job notification.

Selection is “the process of interviewing and evaluating candidates for a specific job and selecting an individual for employment based on certain criteria.” (“What is Employee Selection?”, n.d.). A good selection needs the different techniques. Preliminary screening test will be conducted for the persons who are interested in the job. This screening is an effective method for selecting the candidates. Telephonic interview is an another technique after the screening process.This telephonic interview also confirm whether the candidate was interested or not. If the person selected, face to face interview will be conducted this tells about the communication skills of the candidate and also the technical knowledge. Recruiter wants select the best employee face to face interview was the best method. These are the different techniques which involves in the selection processes.
