Write a four page paper critiquing and comparing the discussion articles on the Black
Loyalists written by Barry Cahill and James W. St. G. Walker. These two articles were part of a forum
published in the Atlantic Canadian history journal Acadiensis. They are an excellent example of an

historiographical debate, which occurs when two historians examine the same evidence but reach different
conclusions.
Your task for this assignment is not to simply summarize the two articles, but instead to assess and weigh
the arguments put forth by Cahill and Walker. The question that guides your paper should be“Which
historian is more correct and why?”
