In May 2018, Maryland offensive lineman Jorden McNair collapsed after a conditioning te-st that consisted of 10 110-yard sprints during an offseason workout at Maryland. He was hospitalized and died two weeks later from exertional heatstroke at Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Later ESPN reported a followup story detailed the “toxic culture” at Maryland under the then head coach (and former Florida DC) D.J. Durkin. According to the report, Durkin and strength and conditioning coach Rick Court created a culture of humiliation and harsh punishments.
Based on this case, would you recommend reforming intercollegiate football? If you are in favor of reform, what specific reforms would you suggest?
