Reading Connections offer you an opportunity to apply the concepts
presented in your texts. During each unit, you will select one of the
Reflective Exercises in the material you read from the SuperVision and Instructional Leadership text.
Then you will prepare a one- to two-page paper in APA format in which
you respond to the scenario in the text, answer the questions posed, and
reflect on what you learned. If you watched a video or reviewed other
material, you may include connections from those as well.

Reflective Exercise (from chapter 13)

Western High School serves a community that includes both low- and middle-income neighborhoods. Approximately 20% of the students at Western are African American, 5% are Asian, 30% are Latino, and 45% are White. The teacher staff at Western is 70% White, 20% Latino, and 10% African American, with a blend of beginning, mid-career, and late-career teachers. Lucinda Murphy, principal at Western, has decided to assess the school’s climate. She wants to include the teachers, staff, students, and parents in the assessment. Lucinda also wishes to use a variety of needs assessment methods in order to develop a full picture of the school’s climate and changes needed to improve the climate.
