For this assignment, you will be visualizing presidential election data and posting it to Tableau Public.
PREPARATION
Because you may be working with imperfect data, it will be useful to spend some time understanding some of Tableau’s data management capabilities. Please take the time to review the Tableau training course “Data Prep with Text and Excel (Links to an external site.)” before beginning this assignment.
DATA
All data is available online. You can start with the data available at the Daily Kos website here (Links to an external site.).
PART 1: CREATING VISUALIZATIONS
Select one particular election and provide the following analysis:
- Create a US map showing the electoral college results for all states in the union at the time of the election. You may select your own colors for each candidate. The tooltip for each state should have the state name, # of electoral votes, and the % of people voting for each candidate.
- Create a tree map that colors state by candidate and electoral vote. The tooltip for each state should have the state name, # of electoral votes, and the % of people voting for each candidate.
- Create a stacked column chart that shows electoral votes for each candidate. There should be one stacked column for each candidate, with the column showing a color section for each state that voted for that candidate proportionally by number of votes.
- Create a final visualization (of your choice) that best complements the particular election race you chose.
For each visualization, please be sure to use the “title” feature to give a title to each visualization and the “caption” feature to create a note explaining the calculations used and citing the data source.
