Electronic Health Records have brought innovation and have elevated the level of quality of the healthcare system. Since it comes with privacy risks and complications, there are some requirements set by Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), which help to ensure that the patient’s personal information remains confidential and secured. HIIPA uses a definition called Protected Health Information (PHI) that determines the type of patient’s information that comes under the dominion of law (“Protected Health Information (PHI) – TrueVault”, 2021). The data or information can be considered PHI if it is personally identifiable to the patient and was used by an enclosed entity through the time of care (“Health Information Privacy”, 2021).
