The topic of your speech should be about a significant social
issue that is important to you. Examples included but are not limited to
police brutality, gun violence, food justice, the lack of access to
quality education in low income communities, income inequality and more.
Pick one issue you are passionate about. You can pick one from this
list or you can choose your own but make sure it is an issue that
matters and is affecting a group of people.
Once you have an issue. I would write out the speech in the following format.
hook the reader by making them care about the issue. Then, end with
your preview or thesis statement that states the 2 or 3 points you will

from a research article to support your idea. Explain the quote and what
it suggests about your issue and about the main idea of this paragraph.
Body 3: You can add another point of you’d like and follow the same format.
restate the points of your speech. Ex- I have explain (point 1, point
2, and point 3). The reason why (issue) is significant is because…we
should all (recommendations for action)
Include a Works Cited page of two articles you used.
reading your speech. Record your time. You want to stay around 5
minutes. You want
to know your topic and use the write out as a guide. Try to make it
sound natural, not staged. Do not just read of the paper.
