Module 2 Assignment Overview

In this module, you will complete a three-part Assignment that you will submit over the course of 3 weeks. This week, you will complete and submit Part 1. You will complete and submit Parts 2 and 3 in Week 6.

Important Note: Please be aware that, for Parts 2 and 3 of the Assignment, due in Week 6, you will be required to have completed an online simulation experience that must be scheduled for a particular time. Be sure to read the instructions thoroughly to ensure you plan ahead and fulfill all requirements for the Assignment.

For the Module 2 Assignments, you will act as a manager who has been co-leading an important project with a fellow manager. Your colleague has held up delivery of the project and has been making comments expressing his displeasure to others. You have spoken to your supervisor to get their advice, and the two of you agreed that you will reach out to the colleague to discuss the matter and establish a productive, mutually agreed-upon path forward. Your task is to prepare for and schedule an in-person conversation with your colleague to discuss the matter. You will then follow up with your colleague via a draft email after the interaction to document the results of your conversation. You will conduct the conversation with your colleague using an online simulation platform. This week, you will draft and submit the Handling Difficult Conversations Checklist section of the Week 4 Assignment Template for your peer conversation.

Important Note: If you have not already scheduled your required simulation experience, please do so as soon as possible by following the directions found in the Simulation Session Guide (PDF). Once you are a registered portal user, you will select a specific day and time to complete your simulation experience. Please note that you must first complete the simulation experience to answer the reflective questions in Part 2 of this Assignment, due by Day 7 of Week 6. Therefore, be sure to allow yourself enough time between the simulation experience and Assignment due date to complete your Week 6 Assignment.

This Assignment incorporates the Business Skill for Good of handling difficult conversations.

To prepare for this Assignment:

  • Download the WMBA 6695 Simulation Preparation (PDF) document.
  • Download the Week 4 Assignment Template. Review the scenario for the simulation as well as the points under each section that you will flesh out to develop the outline for your conversation with your colleague. The title for each section of the outline represents one of the challenges you will complete in the simulation.

By Day 7

Submit your completed Week 4 Assignment Template as follows:

Part 1: Preparing for Your Conversation
  • For each subsection of the Handling Difficult Conversations Checklist section of the Week 4 Assignment Template, use the space beneath each item to take detailed notes of what you plan to say to Adam during your one-on-one conversation with your colleague. You may choose either to compose a script (understanding that this may need to change in the moment depending on how your colleague responds), or you may instead choose to include bullet points with key phrases for the ideas you want to cover and strategies for how you might help put him at ease, establish trust, or anticipate how he may respond to your feedback. Be sure to address all parts of each item. In addition to your notes about what you plan to discuss with your colleague, also be sure to note any questions you may have for your own supervisor to discuss when you debrief with them later.

Refer to the Week 4 Assignment Rubric for specific grading elements and criteria. Your Instructor will use this grading rubric to assess your work.
